Opening hours

Opening hours of shops vary depending on what you buy and where you buy it. The shops in the city centre are open Monday to Friday between 10-19, on Saturdays  10-16 and on Sundays 12-16.

There is a large shopping area in Tornby, open 10-20 on weekdays, 10-17 on Saturdays and 11-17 on Sundays. There are free busses from the town centre to Ikano-huset on Saturdays and Sundays.

During the summer months, July-August, it is not unusual for shops, restaurants and other services to be closed or to have shorter opening hours.

Buy food and alcohol

Food stores are open every day, often between 9 and 20 (even on Saturdays and Sundays). Many supermarkets are open even beyond these times.

Alcoholic beverages are not sold in normal stores. If you want to purchase wine, beer or spirits you need to visit Systembolaget. There are three Systembolaget in Linköping and opening hours on weekdays are 10-18 (some days 19) and on Saturdays 10-14.

The legal age to purchase alcoholic beverages is 20 and you need to prove your age when purchasing. If you are under 25 years old – always show your identification before a purchase. To make a purchase for someone who is prohibited to make it themselves, is forbidden and subject to penalty.

The legal age to drink alcohol in a bar or restaurant is 18.

Queue system

In many smaller shops och offices like a bakery, a pharmacy, a bank or an authority it is quite common to use a queue system. The system contains of numbered tickets, usually numbered paper tickets, but some shops use reusable wooden plates.  The queue ticket is usually available by the entrance. Just take a ticket and wait for your turn. Your number will be called when somebody is ready to see you.
