Library Rules in English

Library Rules in English. Valid from May 2023.

Library card

You can apply for a library card on the Götabiblioteken website or by contacting us. You must show a valid ID to get a library card.

A PIN code goes with your library card. With a library card and a PIN code you can:

  • Use our self checkout machines
  • Use a computer
  • Log in to databases
  • Borrow electronic items
  • Reserve items
  • Check your loans and renew them on the Götabiblioteken website

Children up to the age of 18 must have their parent’s signature to obtain a library card and PIN code.

If you lose your library card, you must report it to us, to stop other people using it. Also report any changes to your name, address, e-mail address or phone number.

Loan period

The loan period is usually 28 days.

There are exceptions to this, such as current magazines (14 days), feature films (14 days) and new books (10 days).

If there is a queue for an item, the loan period is automatically shortened to 14 days.

Renewing loans

It is possible to renew a loan on items, but not if there are others in the queue. Every loan can be renewed three times. You can renew loans on the Götabiblioteken website or by contacting us.

Returning loans

You can return your items at any library in Östergötland and Tranås.

If you don’t return your loans in time you will be sent reminders. After three weeks your library card is blocked.

Reservations

You can reserve items on the Götabiblioteken website or by contacting us.
We will send you a message when the item is available.

There is no charge for ordering items from Götabiblioteken.

For a small charge it is possible to borrow items from other libraries in Sweden and even from other countries.

Responsibility - loans and use of computers

Your library card is personal and valuable. You are responsible for all your loans, orders of books, films etc, and use of our computers, which are all arranged using your library card.

Everything you borrow must be returned undamaged by the end of the loan period.

You must pay for any damaged or lost items, which still belong to the library after they have been paid for.
